About VESAL

To enable the knowledge and information accessible to everyone, Tishk International University holds its annual conference on Educational Sciences. The International Visible Conference aims to gather researchers, practitioners, educators, and scholars with interests in any field of teaching at all levels from around the world.
We kindly welcome scholars coming from the international and local regions as well as teachers and prospective teachers to Erbil, Iraq. The VESAL 2024 conference aims to contribute to the region and educators through international experts and researchers.

Scope

The VESAL 2024 conference plans to remain open to educational studies, language teaching and/or language-education related topics broadly defined, looking more closely into the current dynamics in the world between old and new trends, local and global tendencies, progressive and conservative views, stabilization and destabilization patterns, national and global identities.

It is expected that VESAL 2024 conference will be a magnet for a significant number of front-ranking academics, professionals and policymakers working in the broad areas of educational studies.

Keynote Speaker 1Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawraz Qadir Hama

Dr. Hawraz Qader Hama is an Assistant Professor in the English Department at the University of Raparin. He earned his Ph.D. in English Language Teaching from Eastern Mediterranean University and his M.A. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from Bilkent University. His research interests include ELT Methodology, Language Testing and Assessment, Classroom Management, and Technology-Integrated Language Teaching. Currently, Dr. Hama serves as the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Raparin.

Keynote Speaker 2Dr. Lynn Rose

Professor Lynn Rose joined the faculty at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) in 2016 after three decades of distinguished teaching and scholarship in the U.S. and Germany. She has received several prestigious teaching awards, including the CASE (Carnegie) Professor of the Year for Missouri. Dr. Rose has also been honored as a Fulbright Scholar and a Mary Switzer Distinguished Fellow.

At AUIS, Professor Rose teaches courses on the history and humanities of the premodern world. Her scholarship primarily focuses on disability studies in the ancient Graeco-Roman world, often intersecting with gender studies, and occasionally extends to modern and non-Western societies. Her current research aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 5: Gender Equality. She explores gender and institutionalized life in Kurdistan, with a particular emphasis on prisons and mental institutions, aiming to promote inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, while addressing and advancing gender equality.

Dr Meretguly Gurbanov is a senior lecturer at the Dowletmammet Azady Turkmen ‎National Institute of World Languages and Academic Advisor at “Gujurly bilim merkezi” ‎Economic Society, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. He is also a Research Fellow at the ‎Shinawatra University, Thailand. Meret has over 20 years’ of extensive experience working ‎as a teacher, trainer and curriculum developer in various national and international ‎institutions. He earned his MA in TESL and PhD in ELE from the English and Foreign ‎Languages University, one of the most prestigious universities in South Asia in the field of ‎English Language Education. He has presented and published widely in the areas of ‎materials development, CLIL and teacher training. He was a co-translator for Oxford ‎Essential Dictionary for Turkmen learners. As a scientific expert, he also translated a two ‎volume epic folk tale “Görogly” into English. Since 2019, he has undertaken an In-Service ‎Teacher Training Project for English language teachers at the D. Azady Turkmen National ‎Institute of World Languages and trained over 150 teachers. His area of study includes ‎CLIL, culture in ELT materials, syllabus design and materials production, teacher training, ‎translation and poetry. ‎
