The 3rd International Engineering Conference on Developments in Civil and Computer Engineering Applications (IEC2017) held for the period from 26 to 27 February 2017 and organized by Tishk International University & Erbil Polytechnic University in Erbil, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq. The university is accepting research and development as a mission for high quality education.

Aiming for international conference standards, the IEC2017 Program Committee enforced certain measures to guarantee the quality of accepted submissions. Such quality measures included up to date research areas (conference tracks), relevance of submissions to these areas, language and clarity, plagiarism issues and adhering to standard conference format template.

The rate of acceptance was 56% while 22 papers accepted and presented. 68 authors registered from Kurdistan, Iraq, Russia, Malaysia, Bosnia, Turkey and India. Erbil Polytechnic and Tishk International University are grateful to all prospective presenters for their valuable contributions that will bring new perspectives on the developments in the Civil and Computer Engineering to Kurdistan Region. The contributions of the conference to Kurdistan Region will be as follows:

• To encourage people to use the latest technology in constructions
• To develop projects for better technology use
• To inform people about global changes in construction and technology

Within this event three different panels will be held. First one under the title of Contemporary Approaches to Engineering Education in Developing Countries that organized in collaboration with IFEES (International Federation of Engineering Education Societies) and GEDC (The Global Engineering Deans Council), chaired by Dr. Hans J. Hoyer (Secretary General of IFEES, Executive Secretary of GEDC). Second one entitled by Sustainable Construction chaired by Dr. Botan Majeed Asinger (Dean of Erbil Technology Institute, Erbil Polytechnic University). And last one about Big Data for a Smarter Society chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Iyd Eqqab Maree (Erbil Technical Engineering College, Erbil Polytechnic University).

The selected accepted papers will be published in Eurasian Journal of Science and Engineering in a special issue in March, 2017. The journal will not charge any publication fee.

     Civil Engineering Panel

In constructing buildings, vast quantities of earth’s resources are expended, and significant portion of its environmental pollution is generated.

The panel of “Sustainable Construction” tries to put light on the understanding of the interplay between buildings and the environment, on the main elements of sustainability in building construction, and on the practice of sustainable construction, also called green building. The panel will show the importance for the design and construction industry to have ‘green’ practice integrated with mainstream practice.
