Dr. hab. Kazimierz Strzałka is a professor of biochemistry at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. His research interests focus on light phase of photosynthesis, molecular dynamics of membranes, extremophiles and mechanisms used by plants to counteract various abiotic stresses. During his scientific career, he held various positions, such as director of the Institute of Molecular Biology, director of the International Centre for Biotechnology, dean of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, and president of the Polish Society for Experimental Plant Biology. He has received numerous awards, including prizes from the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Golden Cross of Merit, Medal of Leon Marchlewski awarded by Committee of  Biochemistry and Biophysics Polish Academy of Sciences, Tyge Christensen Prize and diploma and medal “Visita Distinguida” from Concepcion University, Chile. Professor Strzałka is a member of  numerous Scientific Committees, Boards and Editorial Committees. He is also a member of  Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish Academy of Art and Sciences and foreign member of Chilean Academy of Sciences
