Abstract
Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and remained attached to Russia in the CIS, which is made up of a Ukrainian majority and a Russian minority. The Russian minority is concentrated in the east and the Crimea. Since 2014, the signs of conflict between Russia and Ukraine began after Russia took control of the Crimea region and annexed it to the Russian Federation. There have also been repeated acts of violence and multiple racist violations against the Russian minority in eastern Ukraine, which prompted the leaders of this region to announce the establishment and formation of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk Republic. Popularity on the border with Russia in 2014 under the guise of support from the mother state of the Russian Federation. The internal war between the Ukrainian army and the separatist forces continued, which increased tension between the two sides, which ended with the outbreak of the Russian war against Ukraine on November 24, 2022. The research sheds light on the role of the United Nations as one of the main tools in the international legal organization entrusted with the task of maintaining international peace and security in the international community, in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, including the efforts of the Security Council, the General Assembly, and the judicial body represented by the International Court of Justice.
