Abstract

Innovation and technological advancement are key elements in a countries economic competitiveness and economic development. Universities are expected play a central role in the development of such works both by producing the required professionals and participating directly and indirectly in it. Although this is the truth in one side, industries and the government should also have their share in establishing strong linkage between universities and industries to bring innovation, technological advancement and other benefits related to these. The overall objective of this study was to assess the current types of University industry linkage among Ambo University and nearby industries. For this study descriptive research design was used and data were primary and secondary which was collected from112 employees of the university (HOD, Deans, Vice deans, UIL coordinators) and 44 individuals from selected nearby industries) via questionnaire beside interview was conducted with universities officials (research directorates and UIL directorates) and industries Management members (PR, Managing directorate, Research and production manager). Methods of data analysis were both qualitative & quantitative data analysis depending on the nature of the data collected by using SPSS version 24. The finding revel that Major forms of U-I linkages are; Training and curriculum development, Internship programs for students, contract and collaborative research, Consultancy service, Enterprise support and service and Technology transfer and commercialization of intellectual property.
