Adaptation to Online Learning during COVID-19: The Perceptions of Students at Tishk International University

Online learning during COVID-19 has changed students’ perceptions and attitudes towards both the ways they are taught, and the ways they learn. During the pandemic, students found real challenges due to the adoption and adaptation of online teaching. This study investigates the adaptation of students at Tishk International University to online learning during COVID-19. The study has used qualitative analysis to explore the adaptation of students to online learning of the English Language Teaching, ELT, among 21 students. Interview is used to collect data from the participants. The questions in the interview were designed to understand students’ adaptation and see if online learning has changed their skills and attitudes towards learning. The results of the study showed that they adapted to online learning thanks to the compulsory adoption of online education, during the pandemic. On the other hand, the results showed students are dissatisfied with online learning. Therefore, their skills and attitudes have not changed about online education. The students suggested some techniques to transform online learning, and make it more engaging and satisfying. The sudden adoption of the process turned out to have passive effects. That is why students recommend specific suggestions so as to make online education more engaging and motivating.
