Abstract: Despite the aspiration of the Iraqi people to democracy and the applied of political rights since 2003, after decades of the totalitarian regime during the rule of the Saddamians Arab Baath Socialist Party 1979-2003.
They have been desperate for the political process after a decade and a half, as a result of the wrong policies of successive Iraqi governments of sectarianism, quotas and corruption rampant in all state institutions.
From here, the rising voices came to hold accountable the violators and the corrupt and demand the improvement of the standard of living of the citizens of health, education, housing, job opportunities and reconstruction of what was destroyed by the wars.
However, demonstrations and protests have not been heard by the political class, which has continued its previous approach since 2003, with the exception of changing some faces in each electoral cycle.
Thus, citizens reacted by boycotting elections in an unusual manner in the history of the Iraqi state, especially in the last legislative elections on 12 May 2018 to elect the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on 30 September 2018 to elect the Kurdistan Parliament.
In other words, the Kurdistan Region was not immune to the political boycott of the elections, despite the difference between the provinces of the province and other Iraqi provinces in the center and south.
Opening remarks:
(The province _ corruption _ citizens – elections – the political process _ living conditions _ parliament – the House of Representatives).
