About Erbil

Erbil, also spelt Arbil (Kurdish: ھەولێر / Hewlêr‎), locally called Hawler by the Kurds, is the capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan and the most populated city in the Kurdish inhabited areas. It is located approximately in the center of Iraqi Kurdistan region and north of Iraq. It has about 850,000 inhabitants, and Erbil governorate has a permanent population of 2,009,367 as of 2015.

Human settlement at Erbil can be dated back to possibly 5th millennium BC, and it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in the world. At the heart of the city is the ancient Citadel of Erbil. The earliest historical reference to the region dates to the Third Dynasty of Ur of Sumer, when King Shulgi mentioned the city of Urbilum. The city was later conquered by the Assyrians.

Conference Objectives

The main objective of the ICAD 2023 conference is to create space for presentation of current and state-of-the-art concepts and results of scientific work in various fields of Architecture and Interior Design. The conference also presents a platform for creating collaborative links and continuous engagement between academics and professional practitioners and their workplaces, aiming at long-term sharing and exchange of knowledge and ideas on the most pressing issues and development in the Architecture and Interior Design field.

Conference Objectives

You are invited to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Architecture & Interior Design (ICAD 2023) under theme of “Contemporary Built Environment Challenges in the Middle East” in the city of Erbil, Kurdistan Region-Iraq on 28th-29th of November, 2023. The event is jointly organized by Tishk International University and University of Mosul.

Assistant Prof. Dr. Salahaddin Yasin Baper is acting as Head of Architectural Department /College of Engineering at University of Salahaddin-Erbil, IRAQ. He obtained his BS in Architecture from University of Technology, Baghdad Iraq with Honors. He continued his M.Sc. in architectural technology at University of Technology, Iraq. He earned his PhD in theory of architecture in HBP-USM. He works as a Consultant Architect and designed several important projects in Erbil city

Dr. Muthana J. Al-BayatyPhD in Architecture

Ph.D. in Architecture, University of Pennsylvania, 1982.
M.E.D, Yale University, 1977.
B.Sc. in Architecture, Ain Shams University, 1969.
Brief Profile :
Muthana J. Al Bayaty was born in Baghdad in 1947. He studied at Ain Shams University in Cairo. After graduating in 1969 he practiced architecture in various places, including the esteemed Hisham Munir’s Architectural Office and Building Research Center. He continued his studies at Yale University earning his Master’s degree in Environmental Design in 1977.
He then joined the department of architecture at Baghdad University as a teacher. He founded Bayaty Architects in Baghdad in 1978.
In 1979 he joined the PHD program at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1982, studying under influential architects-thinkers like Joseph Rykwert and Cesar Pelli.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherif Farag EbrahimArchitect-Assistant professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, Egypt

Sherif Farag is the co-founder and CEO of ADD Architects which is an interdisciplinary architectural office in Egypt. Considered one of the growing consultant offices in Alexandria, persuaded with participating in the architectural competitions.
He finished his PHD of Architecture, entitled ‘Towards developing a platform for feedback in design process (Case-study of daylight efficiency in office buildings in Egypt)’ which aims to apply a scientific methodology to manage and implement a platform which will collect, analyze, and give outputs from the information collected from several previous architectural design experiences.
Previously he finished his M.S.C. of Architecture, entitled “Topology tendency in architecture”, discussed the development of the new mathematics especially topological science in its concept of space which ignores dimensions to concern in surfaces' relations, certainly widely contribute to architecture development.
Teaching several undergraduate courses; architectural design and project management. He has involved in different scientific, social, and cultural activities and public events.
He has a vast experience, in two firms for 3 years, in forming a design team and design process to ensure the productivity improvement, He also works in setting up a firm structure to lead the architectural/interior design firms to work efficiently.
